Posted by Birdy: Birdy simply couldn't sleep. Not just because of the loud snoring and weird mutterings coming from the boys, but because of all the things that were churning around in her head. Her first kiss was still playing over and over. Everything had happened so fast, but she knew, deep down, that it was the real thing. Another thought entered the whirlpool. What had happened at the Brooklyn Bridge? Besides the cuddling session between Echo and Spot? She hoped she could ask Echo tomorrow. A strange urge overcame her to walk over to Blink's bunk. Quietly, Birdy slipped out from under her thin blanket and tiptoed across the floor. She stood beside the bunkbed that Blink and Racetrack shared. I can't wake Racetrack up, she thought. As delicately as possible, she stepped onto the side of Race's mattress and hoisted herself up. There, sleeping peacefully, was Kid Blink. Ever so softly, Birdy reached out and stroked his cheek. He didn't stir. She couldn't help but be a little disappointed. ((Sorry, we really want this thread to get longer before we create a new one.))

((OOH! Was it good?! I wanted to see it just so if that movie really does get accepted as an official Disney Princess movie by society someday, I can tell my kids I saw it in theaters. I also think it looks cute. You know, my mom saw Newsies in theaters. She said she doesn't really remember it because she didn't think it was very good... ))

((Yes, it was an adorable movie. I loved it! Well, of course I did. I'm a Disney freak.)) Birdy was sitting on her bunk, buried in one of the books she had taken from home. She heard footsteps coming toward her and looked up. Blink approached the bunkbed with a smile. "Hello, Blink," Birdy said with a returning smile. "Whaddya reading?" Blink asked with a curious expression. Birdy looked down at the thick novel, and back up at Blink. "Oh, well, this is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte." "That sounds....interesting," Blink said unconvincingly. Birdy smiled ruefully. She knew a boy would never interest in Wuthering Heights, which was a tragic romance. She knew just the thing for him. "Here," she said kindly as she reached into her carpet bag, "I have the perfect book for you." A copy of King Arthur was clutched in her hand. "You can borrow it to read." Blink winced slightly and looked away from her. Birdy was confused and a little hurt. "What's wrong, Blink?" she asked as she gently placed her hand on his cheek. "I-I never learned how to read," he said bashfully. Birdy felt a rush of pity for him. She couldn't imagine life without that simple ability. It would be torture. "Oh, Blink, I'm so sorry," Birdy apologized. A wonderful idea eclipsed her sadness. "I have an idea. Why don't I read it out loud to you?" A half smile tugged on Blink's lips. "That...would be nice," he said, and Birdy could tell he meant it. Blink shifted closer to Birdy so he could look over her shoulder. "Read on," he whispered, and kissed her cheek. Birdy grinned, and began weaving the grand tale of King Arthur.((Just to let you all know, I stole that scene from Beauty and the Beast ))

((I know! I saw the play. (The one I didn't get into and an older girl with a funny lisp got the part I wanted. she was cute, but not cute enough to be chip. ) Blink could probably read a little judging on how they read the stories in the papers to make good headlines, but you're right, he probably couldn't read much. ))

((oh yeah! about your little "kiss" post. It was written REALLY well and suited the characters awesomely, it was just used a little too soon. I would copy and send to yourself or something, then delete the post and just use it later. It was really great, so you better not get rid of it!))

((I'm jumping to December, if that's alright)) Birdy, Echo and Snicker walked down the street, huddled close together. December was in its peak, and the girls wore what extra layers they could scrounge up. Birdy mumbled to herself, "I wish I was by the fireplace at my house." Echo heard her quiet complaint and shook her head. "Boids, youse really gotta suck it up!" she chastised. "B-But-" "No buts! Let's go to Tib's if youse so cold." "I like that idea!" Snicker chimed in. She was trying hard not to say anything about the biting chill herself. Echo rolled her eyes and quickened her pace. The girls passed by Macy's on their way to the newsies' restaurant. They all stopped and stared in wonder at the impressive display in the window. "Look, it's Santa Claus!" Snicker exclaimed as she pointed into the store at a large man in a red suit. He sat in a gilded chair while children lined up to tell him their wishes. Silently, each of the three girls were imagining what they would ask for. Echo couldn't help but be frivolous for a moment and wish for the expensive things she saw inside the department store. Snap out of it! You're making wishes that'll never come true! she scolded herself. Shaking her head, she stepped away from the window. "C'mon, goils! We gotta get to Tib's!" She nudged at Birdy and Snicker and they reluctantly followed her down the sidewalk.

((Uhh, I don't think Santa came around to department stores until 1915 or so... Most of our writing on here is inaccurate I've noticed. It's mostly just the style of clothing we describe on women, really. ))
