Snicker awoke with all of her things in the new room as she lie on her new bunk. She sat up quickly and bumped her head on the metal bar hoding the top bunk up above her. "IE!" She cried rubbing her fresh wound. "Careful!" Birdy exclaimed as she set her things down next to the bunk. "Is... Is this is boy's room?" Snicker asked glancing around at the disaster area. It smelt of dirty laundry which wasn't surprising as the floor was covered in it as well as playing cards, old cigarettes, empty bottles, as well as hats and lone shoes missing their partners. Birdy nodded. "This is worse than the first room!" Snicker screamed. Before Birdy could try to calm her down, Echo burst through the door with a wad of clothes under her arm. "Isn't this great? Now we're all together! It's almost kinda cozy." Echo shivered with delight as she through her clothes onto the bunk above Snicker. "Where are you sleeping Birdy?" Snicker asked looking up at her blonde friend with big eyes. "In this bunk, with you." Birdy gestured to the bunk in front of her. "GREAT!" Snicker exclaimed sarcastically as she fell back on her bunk.

"So Snicker found out about the bunk shortage, huh." Skittery told Racetrack sarcastically. Racetrack nodded his head and laughed, they were on the complete oppostite side of the room.
"Come on Snick! It can be that bad! I think it'll be fun to all be together like this!" Echo sang in Snickers ear cheerfully.
"Yeah, says the orphan girl that was practically raised in a barn!" Snicker shot back snotily, not realizing what she had really said. Echo opened her mouth to say more, but then the blow of Snicker's comment hit her full force. She was never one to run off crying just because of some stupid little thing, but when it was anything, anything what so ever, that related to the orphanage or her family, she cracked. She just couldn't help it, those wounds were just to tender right now for her to ignore. Echo clenched her fists and stomped off in a fake fit of anger, attempting to hide the pain. When the girls couldn't see her face she ran in search of Switchblade, with tears fighting for a chance to stream down her face.
"What did I do?" Snicker asked Birdy confused.
"I can't beleive you said something like that!" Birdy shot back, Birdy was also a tad confused by Echo's reaction, but she hated to see a person upset like that.
"What do you think it was!! I thought she didn't care about stuff like that!" Snicker was starting to get a bit jostled now.
"I don't know, lets just not bring it up and see what happens, ok?" Birdy replied with sympathy filled eyes.

Birdy took off down the steps and into the lobby. Kloppmann was dozing in his chair. "Mr. Kloppmann!" she said loudly. Kloppmann jerked up in his chair, muttering unintelligably. "Did you see where Echo went?" she asked impatiently. Kloppmann pointed a shaking finger to the west. "Oh no, she ran off to the bridge!" Birdy cried. She dashed back upstairs, grabbed a dollar from her secret stash, and ran back outside. She'd rather call a cabby than walk all the way to Brooklyn. Then, out of nowhere, a cheerful and familiar voice greeted her. "Hey there, Birdy!" Kid Blink called out. He waved at her happily. Birdy blushed and smiled behind her raised palm. She waved back. "Hello, Blink!" The eyepatched newsie approached her and saw the money clutched in her hand. "Are ya headed somewhere?" he asked. "Oh...well," Birdy sighed, "Echo is upset and I think she ran off to the Brooklyn Bridge. She really likes it there." "Well, if ya plannin' on takin a cab...I think you'll need someone to go with you," Blink said with a smile and a wink. Birdy's heart fluttered. Well, it would be nice to have someone on the long ride...plus, it'll be nice to have an escort for once. "All right, you can come along," she submitted. Kid Blink's grin widened, if that was even possible. Birdy moved to raise her arm and yell for a cab, but Blink stopped her. "Allow me, miss." Blink stepped forward, placed two fingers in his mouth, and let out the loudest whistle Birdy had ever heard. Then he waved his arms madly and yelled, "YO, CABBY!!" Instantly, a buggy rolled over to the pair, and Birdy handed the driver her dollar bill. Her and Blink climbed in, and Blink rested his arm on Birdy's shoulder. At first, she shyed away from him, but decided to just enjoy the moment and let herself lean against him. "To the Brooklyn Bridge, please," Birdy instructed the cabby. The buggy began to clop down the stone boulevard. "What was Echo worked up about?" Blink asked casually. "Well, I'm not entirely sure, but Snicker made a nasty comment about when Echo lived in the orphanage, and it seemed to upset her," Birdy explained with a furrowed brow. "What about you? What was your life like before the newsies?" Blink asked again, only this time, his tone was serious and his blue gaze was locked on her. Birdy felt a blush coming on. "Well, I already told you I'm the mayor's daughter. My mother died when I was little, and now my father is very sick, so I got sent to a boarding school where the girls were horrid, so I ran away with Echo, Snicker, Squeakers, and Switchblade. At least, that sums most of it up." She explained nervously. "Well, it doesn't really matter where you came from; I love you just for you," Blink said softly. Birdy could feel his fingers caressing her shoulder lightly. She looked up into his one blue eye and smiled, even though her breath was gone and her heart was pounding from his words. "Thank you, Blink. I.....I love you, too," Birdy finally knew it was true as the words spilled from her lips. A rush of happiness flooded through her, and she couldn't help but grin. Blink began to lean toward her ever so slowly, as if judging her reaction. Birdy found herself wanting him to come closer, and leaned in to him. Their lips met, and the bustle and roar of New York City stopped. For a moment, Birdy was standing in the middle of a candlelit ballroom, satin on her skin, her hands tucked into a soft tuxedo jacket as they spun around the room. Then the moment was over, and the hum of the city returned, and Birdy was back in a cab.

((How come suddenly I'M the evil one, huh? What did I ever do to you two?! Huh? Huh?! HUH?! Snicker isn't THAT rude! Sure, shes a bit impatient and a little sassy at times, but she wouldn't say THAT! C'mon guys!!! )) Snicker sat in her new bunk in her new room accompanied by Specs who was sitting all the way on the other side of the room, ignoring her entirely with a book in his lap. She didn't mind they weren't talking she wanted to have her peace and sort this all out. This is ridiculous, I hardly know these girls. Their clearly over-reacting. You don't need them. All you need is your cat... Snicker sniffled and gripped her pillow tightly. She was lying to herself. She'd never had true friends. Sure all those girls at school always were dying to hang out for her, and those boys followed her around like trusty dogs just begging for her to spin around and ask one to the Vaudeville. She was pretty. She had money. Everyone wanted to be like her, but none of them understood her long for adventure. Something more. But Birdy did, and so did Echo. They accepted her here. All the boys did. You were just fine before...[/img] But at the lodging house, she felt excellent. "SNICKER!" A tall blonde girl sang out her name from across the room. "What now?!" Snicker barked as her eyes filled with tears. "Who elses life did I ruin?" Specs got up to leave quietly before things got awkward for him. "Huh?" Birdy's happiness drained as she rushed to her friends side. "Nothing..." Snicker mumbled. "... OK! Snicker, you'll never guess what just happened!!" Birdy exclaimed as her own face lit up. "What?" Snicker asked dis-interested. "Blink kissed me!!!" "..." Snicker looked up at her glowing friend and burst into tears. "I know?! Isn't it wonderful!" Snicker pushed passed her friend and ran into the hall to blubber in peace. "I knew she'd be happy for me!" Birdy squealed. ((Don't get mad! Birdy is only oblivious because shes so happy about what happened earlier. Snicker is not bitter about what happened to Birdy, shes just beginning to feel disconnected, confused, and everything is moving too fast for her. Once Echo and Spot become an item I'm going to push Snicker to her edge with Racetrack telling her to back off of him. ))

((sorry if I made Snicker seem jerky, but I think, just because of the way she grew up and how she was raised, that the snappy comments are just something she had come accustomed to. I wasn't trying to make her seem horrible, she was just really irritable and it happened to come out, it was nessecary for my pouncing. ^_^))
Echo ran frantically around the lodging house looking wildly for switchblade. Where was he! He was usually attached to her by the hip, how on earth could she not find him! Echo gave up and slumped down on the curb outside her new home. Just when and idea popped into her head, she desperetly needed someone to talk to. She jumped up and bolted to the Brooklyn bridge, hoping to be greeted with those sharp blue eyes.
By the time she was half way across the bridge she had tears gushing down her face, most of them had come loose from her running and the wind, but she had finally jut let them fall. She couldn't, and wouldn't stop until she found him.
Once she was in Brooklyn she immedietly ran into someone, she sniffed, wiped her face and barked at the person.
"MOVE!" Echo practically screamed, but when she looked, her heart leapt. "Thank god!" She whispered to herself, and flung her arms around Spot. He hugged her, wondering what was wrong. When she pulled away she explained, sort of.
"I-I couldn't find Switchblade, and-and I just feel so st-st-stupid right now!" She said in sobs, she always hiccuped when she cried too, so that didn't make this any easier. She knew she had to stop this foolishness if she was going to say anything more, she pinched herself, and took a deep breath, and her tears stopped instantly, it was a skill she had just recently learned to master.
"Snicker was just really upset, and, well, she said something about me living in an orphange and how I was raised poorly, and it just set me off! I can't help, I went to find Switch, but I couldn't so I figured..." Echo explained to him better now, but she trailed off when Spot leaned, and kissed one of her still remaining tears away from her face.
"It'll be ok, I know it will" Spot whispered to her, his face softened and he embraced her once more.
((I'll continue on with this little bit later, but I thought this would be a pretty way to end right now. normally Spot would've just kissed her right away, but because Spot feels the way he does about Echo he really wants to make everything just how it should and not ruin anything, so he's taking it alot slower so he knows he won't make any mistakes like he has in the past. (aww Spot's got sweet spot!) So that's just a little note, cuz I know he hasn't really been acting like himself lately))

Snicker sat in the hall for a few minutes to calm herself down. She took a deep breath and made her way down the stairs into the lobby. Kloppman stood behind his desk reading through papers. He was back there so often, Snicker sometimes wondered if he even had legs. "Where ya off to, Snick?" The old man asked her. She wriggled anxiously and shrugged her shoulders, never taking her eyes off the open doors. Kloppman made a grunt noise, a sort of conformation. Snicker continued her way out the door and into the sunny world. I wonder what Anthony is up too...

Echo was resting her head on Spot's shoulder. She just wanted to stay here forever, watching the sun lower over the Hudson Bay, feeling the warmth of Spot's arms. A worrisome thought swept through her mind. Where the heck is Switch? Her question was answered with a rough voice calling her name. "ECHO!" Echo stood up and turned to see the tall figure of Switchblade standing on the right end of the bridge. "SWITCH!" she called back. Switch began to walk towards her at an unnatural speed. In half a minute, he was standing over her. "Where have you been?" Switch asked darkly. But only Echo could see how worried he had been. "I've been here for a while." Echo said, without a speck of fear in her. Spot was facing Switch with a mean look in his icy blue eyes. Switch looked back just as coldly. "Did you come here with him?" "No, I ran into him here. Why is it any of your business anyway?" Echo shot back, her hands on her hips.

"Everything you do is my business!" Switchblade growled, why on earth was Echo acting up like this, she would never have done this before... him.
"No... no it's not Switch! You can't say anything about not know where I am anyway, where were you earlier!" Echo leaned in closer growing more angry with him. Normally she would've never talked to Switch like this, but she was still upset about not being able to find him before.
"That's none of your business Echo!" Switch was almost yelling now.
"Oh, so you have to know every single little thing about her, and now something's not her business!" Spot began.
"Don't you start with me" Switchblade hissed, seething with anger. Spot retorted and Echo merely watched, she was done fighting with Switchblade, but she didn't think she could stop a war like this.
"Just let me..." Spot started to say when suddenly.
"HEY, HEY YOU!!" A large man shouted at them. Then they realized he wasn't talking to the three-some, he was pointing directly at Echo. Echo gasped and took off running in the other direction.
"GET BACK HERE! LUCILLE!" The man shouted once more, and then started running after her.
"oh no..." Switch blade whispered in dismay, he couldn't believe it was him. Switch then replace shock with anger and yanked Spot's cane away from him.
"Ey!" Spot yelled reaching for it. Then as the man approached, Switch swung the cane forward and it smacked against the man's fore head and he tumbled over, Switch then hit him once more and knocked him unconcious.
((I just thought of another part of Echo's past. Man, her life is intense! Once everything is explained I'll leave alot of the emotional stuff out of the story for a while, but right now I'm trying to get everyone to see Echo unfurling and figuring out that she really isn't quite the same person that the newsies thought she was))

Spot starred down at the man in horror, then looked up at Echo where their two eyes met. "Spot..." Echo tried to explain to him but he just shook his head. "I'll... I'll see ya later..." He said under his breath as he strolled back to the bridge. Echo tried to run after him, but Switchblade grabbed her by the collar. "Give him some time." Echo nodded. -- "What a day, huh?" Birdy sighed as she finished buttoning up her nightgown. All the other boys were still out. "Yeah, really." Echo said sarcastically as she pulled the hair ties out from under her braids. Snicker stayed quiet. "isn't this wonderful, Snicker? We've all found someone to-" Birdy stopped and remembered Snicker didn't have anyone. Birdy felt a lump form in her throat. "Sorry." She whispered. Snicker nodded and rubbed her tiny hands together. "I don't need anybody." She whispered back. "Well," Echo said with a sigh, "Better get to bed before the boys get here. Y'know? Ever since we moved in here, I've been able to sleep through most anything." Echo climbed up onto her bunk and buried herself in the pile of covers on her bed. "Night." "Night," the two said in unison as Birdy flicked the light off.

((not at all! I mean of course he would wonder but he would stay and ask questions and such but he wouldn't walk away in shock. Beating people up is kinda Spot's forte so he'd understand once he knew why Switchblade did it... but nobody is gonna find that out till later!))
