((I have an idea for making it so the girls would have to move into the boys room, and I think it could add alot of interesting things to the story and would make it alot easier to interact with the boys, and so on and so forth. But I want to make sure nobody absolutely hates the idea before I go for it, tell me what ya think!))

((i'll still wait for snick's reply, but I feel like posting, so here I go!))
---------next morning at the distribution center------------
"Hey birds!! BIRDS!!" Echo shouted while waving her hands in the air with her papers. She kept on yelling, but blonde curls never turned to Birdy's warm smile. Echo ran towards her but as she got closer a light bulb went off in her head. She's with Blink... she thought to herself. Echo smiled to herself and walked off to find Switchblade, maybe they could go back to Brooklyn again today...

((Merging with the boys room wouldn't be a bad idea. I think we only got separate rooms in the first place because... well... I don't know why we split the genders off. I say we have a lack of beds when we merge though. I'm willing to share a bed with someone as long as were the same gender. ))

((cool, let's do it!))
Birdy was shivering with happiness, which happened whenever she was very excited or in a good mood. The reason? The most handsome boy she'd ever known was walking beside her and smiling at her! Suddenly, his smile twisted on end into a frown. "Are youse cold, Birdy?" he asked with concern. Birdy shook her head. She actually felt very warm. "I'm fine," she confirmed, but continued to shiver. "But you're shiverin'! Here," Blink insisted, and shrugged off his jacket. He draped it around her shoulders. "Is dat bettah?"he inquired. "Much better," Birdy replied. She pulled the worn tweed up to her face and inhaled. Despite Blink's poor living conditions, it smelled like fresh soap and aftershave.

Snicker walked behind Blink and Birdy and wished she had a nice gentleman friend who would lend her a coat. All she had was Dutchy who would kindly offer her anything "nifty" he found off the street. Snicker thought about the warm coat and how much she would appreciate it wrapped around her shoulders, which made her even colder. She jumped when she felt a warm hand on her arm. She turned hoping it was Crutchy or maybe even Mush, but it was Dutchy. He had a stupid grin glued to his face as he held up an old nail to Angela's nose. "LOOK!" He exclaimed joyfully. "It's... a nail..." Snicker said dryly. "I bet it's magical! Maybe it belonged to a witch or a fairy!" Dutchy squealed as he held it to his heart. "I can feel the magic!" "It's just an ol' rusty nail." Specs mumbled from behind Snicker. She jumped, she hadn't noticed him until just then. Snicker ignored Specs and his sour remark and played along with Dutchy's idea. "Maybe if you jump with it in your hands, you could fly." Snicker suggested. Dutchy's eyes lit up as he immediately began to run and jump like an idiot. Snicker shook her head and giggled to herself. "I really don't understand you." Specs said as he moved to walk beside Snicker. "Really? Because I don't understand you either." ... "Do you wanna sell papes together?" Specs questioned anxiously. "I thought you'd never ask." Snicker replied coolly slipping her arm through his. -- "So, where you wanna go?" Specs asked as the two stopped outside the distribution center to think. "Uhh, I don't know. I sold nearby Brooklyn yesterday, so I guess we should try around Harlem." Snicker calculated aloud. Specs nodded in agreement as the two set out for their destination. "Uh-oh!" Specs exclaimed minutes later. "What?" But Snicker had realized it by the time she let the word escape from her mouth. Dutchy was looking for them and wasn't too far off from seeing them only a few feet ahead. "Should we let him sell with us?" Snicker asked him grabbing onto his arm. "He does almost everyday... Nah." "C'mon!" Snicker squealed as she pulled Specs by the sleeve urging him to move faster. -- Echo stood alone in the middle of the Brooklyn bridge with an armload of papers. She was nervous but anxious to venture inward to Brooklyn. She took another step forward and heard a familiar voice from behind her. "Echo, wasn't it?" Echo smirked to herself.

"You bet, how's it rollin' Spot?" Echo said while turning around. Spot looked a tad confused, she remembered his name, and used one of his most common greetings. He snapped out of it as quickly as he could though, he didn't want to look dumb in front of such magnificent girl, why was she so fascinating to him?
"Good, good. How 'bout you?" Spot asked smoothly.
"Fine. It was hard to get Switch to let me go alone but once I told him where I was going he backed off a little." Echo told him. Oh my goodness, we're actually having a conversation!! Echo thought her knees would collapse from under her.
"Oh... well I'm glad youse could make it." Spot said with an annoyed tone, Switchblade was someone he knew he wouldn't agree with.
"You wanna sell together?!" Echo asked in a happy chirp. She couldn't believe how easily she was managing to talk, but she was glad she could talk to him without a stutter, even if she fell every now and then.
"Shoiah" Spot responded with a smirk.
------------------- afternoon time-----------------------
"I can't believe what time it is!! We've already made it through the morning edition!" Echo practically shouted in surprise.
"hmph, yeah, time flies when... yeah." Spot said with a nervous smile.
"When what?!" Echo asked him, wanting to know what he was talking about. Spot didn't have the guts to tell her that she was absolutely wonderful and he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. How come I'm getting so choked up about her?! she's just another girl... but, ugh!! Spot thought, almost angerly.
There was a large gush of freezing wind and Echo shivered, and unrolled the sleeves of her shirt to try and get a little warmer, she hadn't even realized how cold it was until now and she hugged herself.
"Youse cold? Your fingahs are practically blue! here..." Spot was actually worrying about her, even though it wasn't even that cold, but he just couldn't help it! he began fumbling for a jacket, which he soon realized he didn't have and his face dropped.
"no really, it's fine..." Echo trailed off. But Spot wouldn't let this go, even if his mind was telling him it was stupid to feel this way about a girl he had just met, he didn't care. He put his arm around her and pulled her close to him. Echo was extremely surprised and she started to resist at first, but then saw what he was doing and wrapped her arms around him and laid her head on his chest. Both of them stayed silent for a while and just stood there, they barely even knew each other and this was a tad strange they admitted to themselves. but the mood eventually eased and they began to walk together like this.
"Do you do anything wid a slingshot?" Spot asked trying to continue on with their previous conversation.
"Are you kidding! I used to play with them when I was little, of course!" Echo responded, excited. They both continued talking but both of them were only half there...
She's right here, in my arms... Spot thought, he thought about how her body seemed to fit perfectly in with his, and how they walked so easily in step, and how her warm steady breath felt against his chest... It was like he had fallen off the Brooklyn bridge.
I can't believe this is actually happening, and only after one day!! Echo noticed how his arms could fit perfectly around her body, and how her head rested in just the right place on his chest, and she loved the feel the side face on the top of her head... She thought she would burst right then and there.
This was a dream, this was perfect, and even if neither of them knew it quite yet, they were meant for each other.
((yeah, I know that kind of fast, but the "crushy" stuff gets old quick, besides it's Echo and Spot, they're probably gonna get going pretty fast anyway.)) ((I loved writing this!))

Birdy was walking by herself that evening, just so she could scull through her thoughts alone, because, well, she had a lot to think about. She noticed that she was still clad in Blink's sweet smelling coat. Oh, how she wished she could go to a ball with Blink! Birdy closed her eyes and started imagining. He would be beyond handsome in a tuxedo, and it wouldn't even matter that he was wearing an eye patch. He would be as suave as ever when he asked her to dance, and they would waltz around the room, unaware of any other human beings. The daydream was so vivid she could feel her favorite dress on her skin, and waltz music played in her head. But then Birdy opened her eyes, and saw that she was wearing beat up trousers and a faded shirt. A wistful and disappointed sigh gushed from Birdy's lungs. She couldn't help but miss the majesty of her previous lifestyle just a little. But then she remembered Blink, and imagined his one bright blue eye winking at her, and all regret was gone, at least for the moment.

Snicker sat alone in the girl's bunk room twiddling her fingers and thinking about anything that came to mind. Her quiet thoughts were interrupted by the clamor caused by a careless Echo as she slammed the room's door behind her. Her feet hit down on the floor with much force with each step. She threw open the bedside table and dug nosily through it's drawers. Snicker glared at Echo's back hoping that her stare might burn through her clothes, but never did. Echo smiled to herself as she pulled a wooden sling-shot from the old drawer. She swung her hip to shut the drawer and flopped onto her bed to fiddle with the contraption. Snicker shook her head and tried to find her way back into her thoughts. She found herself thinking about home again. She liked being with friends and people who really did care about her, but she missed lifes luxuries. Warm baths, soft beds, clean clothes. She couldn't get that here, but as long as she had Echo and Birdy and everyone else, she was just fine as a newsie. Snicker thought for hours about everything to where she was thinking in the dark in a room full of snoring and squeaky bunks. She pulled the covers up to her face and the last thing that ran through her mind was the face of a boy.

Birdy and Snicker had decided to sell together the next morning, and headed off to a neighborhood of Manhattan they already knew well: The Upper East Side. Both of them let out wistful sighs as they passed expensive storefronts of shops they used to visit. Their mouths watered when they passed the four star restaurants they were familiar with.
"Isn't it nice to be here again?" Birdy asked.
"Yeah, brings back memories," Snicker remarked.
"Well, we should get to work, I guess," Birdy sighed. The two girls situated themselves on seperate sides of a block, and began yelling and waving. Birdy had only sold in other areas of Manhattan so far, where the people weren't as priveleged, so no one had really minded her or her ragged appearance. But here, in the lap of luxury, people were disgusted with her ragged clothes and loud yelling. Degrading stares were shot at her as people passed, or after they bought a paper. She couldn't help but feel insulted. A little voice in the back of her head said, I'm the mayor's daughter! They should be respecting me! She had to remind herself that she was a newsie now. A street urchin. Why should they respect her?

((Mmm, yes. Isn't it sad, I'm watching Newsies on youtube all alone in the dark because my dvd broke because of abuse and it's been overplayed and re-wound too much. :c )) "So, how'd sellin' go?" Echo asked with half a pancake stuffed into her mouth. "Not so great..." Birdy said embarrassed as she hid her face behind the bangs that dangled in front of her eyes. "We sold approximately 3 papers." Snicker calculated as she set her glass down onto the table. "Each? That isn't too terrible for the upper east." Echo shrugged. "Not each, in total." Birdy whimpered. Echo snorted and Birdy glared. "Hey! I sold 2!" Snicker roared throwing her napkin down onto her plate. "So? You two still ain't capable of sellin' papes." Echo hissed pushing her dirty plate away from herself. Echo wasn't being so hard on them, but Snicker still snapped anyhow. She was cranky and sick of living on the streets. "I'm going." She sighed as her eyes watered and her nose ran. "What was that about? She didn't even pay for her food!" Echo complained gesturing to the empty seat. ((BLAH. It's just leading up. Seriously, you ladies need to pounce on your Newsies cause I've been ready for a long while now and I can't go until you two go! ))

((FINE. right after this post!))
Echo and Birdy paid for they're food (and snicker's) and headed back to the lodging house. When they arrived they saw very muscular men standing near their building with hammers and tools of that sort.
"Who da heck are they?" Echo asked Kloppman when she got inside.
"W-w-workers, they're going to d-d-demolish the other half of the lodgin' house. Y-y-you girls will have to move o-o-out o your room and into the boy's, s-s-sorry." Kloppman explained to them. Birdy's face froze, Echo may be fine with something like this, but Birdy couldn't even stand the thought of sleeping in the room with a...a... boy.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, WITH THE BOYS?!!!" Birdy practically exploded. "I CAN'T SLEEP IN THE SAME ROOM WITH A BOY!! This isn't happening! it's just not right! ohhh Daddy would never have allowed this, NO WAY!" Birdy continued, getting into quite a tizzy. Kloppman tried to calme her down just as Snicker and Squeakers walked in.
"What's going on?" Snicker questioned Echo.
"Wese is gonna have to stay in the same room as the boys." Echo said nonchantly. Snicker screamed. and screamed. and screamed. Squeakers merely giggled and plastered a dreamy look upon her face.
"BUT WHY?!!" Snicker and Birdy demanded at once, pounding their fists on Kloppman's counter.
"That half of the building is just too old, t-t-this part of it was made l-l-long after that s-s-side. So they're t-t-tearin' down, for s-s-saftey p-p-purposes." Kloppman told the girls.
"K." Echo shrugged and pulled Squeakers up the stairs with her to get their belongings from their old room. Snicker fainted. Birdy began to pace the floor. And Kloppman just shook his head.
"girls..." He sighed.
